Gretchen Carlson, an American television commentator, author, and 1989 Miss American winner said, “All women deserve a dignified and respectful workplace in which talent, hard work, and loyalty are recognized, revered, and rewarded” (Carlson). This quote is very powerful and meaningful to all women and men, it shows people that gender should not play a role in the workplace. Many years ago, women were excepted to stay home to tend the children and the house, but the role has changed. Several women are now successfully working but, there are also many women who are being overlooked in work. Discrimination against women in the workplace is evident through unequal pay, being passed by for big-project opportunities and promotions, and poor treatment.

The poor treatment of women is displayed when men sexually assault or inappropriately act towards their colleagues. Though many women do not bring the situations to attention, they still happen. The Wall Street Journal did a poll that showed that 48% of women say they have personally experienced un-welcome sexual advance or verbal or physical harassment at work (Radnofsky). The survey displays the fact that women are being taken advantage of by the men at their work. The men doing these acts see that the women will not risk losing their jobs, so many times the males get away with the harassment. Many other research authors and articles have also studied the poor treatment of women at workplaces. Authors Kim Parker and Cary Funk did many surveys of men and women. The two women then went on to write the article Gender discrimination comes in many forms for today’s working women and found that women are 3 times more likely than men to experience sexual harassment. This goes to show that men are not affected by the poor treatments at work like women are, but instead, they are many times not doing anything about the situations or are the men treating the women unfairly because of their gender.
