We have received the Panel Qualified Medical Examination report of Dr. Gary R. Watson, dated April 20, 2017. I believe you were also served with a copy. If this is not the case, please let me know, and I will happily forward one to you.

Summary

Unfortunately, Dr. Watson did not find the applicant permanent and stationary, despite the fact the applicant was discharged from care by the primary treating physician, Dr. Gary Hatcher on or about November 16, 2016. Frankly, I am very displeased with Dr. Watson’s conclusions.

Dr. Watson diagnosed the applicant with cervical strain and lumbar sprain/strain.

As for causation, Dr. Watson opined a motor vehicle accident of this type often result in a neck and back injury. However, it appears Dr.

Watson opined while these may not be within his specialty, he believes the applicant’s headache complaints may be associated with the applicant’s neck pain. Luckily, Dr. Watson did not make any referrals to a neurologist.

Overall, Dr. Watson’s report is very short and not very detailed. Dr. Watson documented the applicant’s present complaints indicate the primary pain in the mid-lower back, with some weakness in the lower extremity as well as some occasional mild neck pain.

Dr. Watson’s physical examination of the neck and back reveal generally normal findings. Dr. Watson documented the applicant has expressed pain with the extension movement of the applicant’s lumbar spine.

As for the applicant’s activity of daily living, Dr. Watson did not explicitly indicate what has caused the effect on the applicant’s activities of daily living.

In conclusion, Dr. Watson did not believe the applicant is considered permanent and stationary and recommended additional treatment, including physical therapy, acupuncture, chiropractic treatment, and other medications. Based from what I know, the MVA was very minor. Fortunately, Dr. Watson only included the recommendation for the X-ray of the cervical, lumbar and thoracic spine in the future medical treatment section. Therefore, the diagnostic studies where not requested to make a medical-legal determination. As you know, in this case, the option to request a diagnostic study is deferred to the primary treating physician as this is a recommendation for medical
