There are many movies that try to tackle the race issue that has been endowed on the people of America. I believe Fruitvale Station based on a true story of Oscar Grant, a young man who was killed in 2009 by police officer Johannes Mehserle, at the Fruitvale Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) Station in Oakland, California. (This movie portrays a great role in showing the genocide amongst the African -American community and how African Americans are more at risk of experiencing police brutality). Smith believed that Ryan Coogler, whom is the author of Fruitvale Station, left out a significant amount of information on Oscar Grants life. Kyle Smith focused more on the criminal background of Oscar Grant. Smith believed that Oscar Grant was a criminal and due time Grants death would be bound to happen because of his criminal background and behavior. This movie has so many messages and meanings such as: Awareness of police brutality and also awareness of social norms and social stratifications with racism. Additionally Fruitvale Station is my favorite movie because I can relate to this movie, growing up in the south my Great Grandmother who was Caucasian passed away, and my Caucasian side of my family didn’t considered my African -American side as family anymore. After my great grandmother passed away my African- American side of my family were shunned, and due to this a murder occurred in my home town Pageland South Carolina. A Caucasian woman was raped and murder and they blamed my African- American cousin for her murder. My great uncle who is the leader of the KKK in Pageland South Carolina did a march through town my cousin whom was accused of murdering and rapping the Caucasian woman was found murdered by a creek, and they never found his killer. In due time they found out my cousin was not guilty of the Murder of the woman but it was too late my cousin was murdered the same night. This movie bring out many emotions when I watch it because I have been a victim of racial inequality and I do believe this movie no matter what race can change the perspective of any American person whom is willing to see the issue of racism and police
