In the passage “some of the classrooms ‘do not have air conditioning,’ so that the students ‘become red-faced and unable to concentrate’ during the extreme heat of summer’’ (Kozol, 718-719). The children in the passage complain that they are unable to concentrate in the heat. Students should be able to concentrate on school work and succeed in what they want to be instead they have to worry about the heat in class. If a student were working, for example, working at a restaurant or fast food place the school was giving the student half a credit for working.
