Senior Year In High School

Improved Essays
Throughout four years of high school many students complete graduation requirements and course credits by or before senior year. Often times, this leads to students taking a majority of elective classes that are unnecessary. Examples of these classes are Volleyball class, Fabrics and Fibers, and Study Hall. High school students should not have to take irrelevant classes senior year just because they have to be in high school for four years. It is not fair to the students that worked hard enough to finish their classes by or before senior year. Instead, students who have graduation and credit requirements should be allowed to graduate early. This time would allow students more time to prepare for college, find a job, and give them time to find

Students have been taking classes that have no relationship to what they want to study. If a student were working, for example, working at a restaurant or fast food place the school was giving the student half a credit for working. Students should not be getting a half a credit for something they are leaning nothing about just life skills which everyone learns on their own. Students should be able to decide what classes they want and enjoy there courses and not be…

Five Years of Benefits When people think of a person who took a fifth year in high school they think of failure, miss credits and many similar problems, but actually no one really looks at the beneficial side of a fifth year. It can allow a student to become more aware of programs, life paths and career choices which is extremely important. Therefore, the high school program should extend to five years instead of four because it allows students to obtain more education and gain more life skills. People say that grade twelve is enough education for students, but actually in an extra year of school many things can be taught and learned. Firstly, an extra year of high school opens up more learning opportunities for students.…

Honestly, I don't agree or disagree I just have my own opinion. Grade levels k-8 should be required courses, because that is when the foundation is built for students. Once you enter high school, students should be able to pick their own courses. However, I believe the only courses that should be required are English and gym. English helps the interaction with one another, our word selection, and knowledge.…

Though I agree, I do have a personal bias towards the situation because I am in college and a freshman which means taking all of these general education classes. When I was in highschool I had always been so excited to finally be able to take the classes that I wanted to that were based on my major. When I made my schedule for the first time and looked into all of the requirements I saw that I had many ‘“pointless” classes. I come personally from a family that is not well off so I will be in an extreme amount of debt. I believe that if these courses were to be elimnated so would be the amount of money I have to take out in loans.…

The Flaws in Graduation Tests The life in school is a debatably tough one, and students juggle with so many tasks at once it’s incredible that they still have time to progress in their out-of-school life. So why have graduation exams to make it even harder? Tests to graduate high school shouldn’t be required to pass out of high school because it takes too much time away, they don’t motivate the students to do their best, they don’t teach the students the skills needed for college or their futures, and the cost is vast and a burden on parents, students, and districts.…

About two point nine percent of students actually decide to graduate early in an average high school. For example, Josh from Carroll County High School was the only one of his senior class that decide to graduate early from it. So how many from our school would actually decide to graduate from the school early or would rather stay for the extra year. Students should just do the normal four years because it gives them time to do extracurricular activities, being able to relax, and being able to have more free time.…

The graduated high school students should not be forced to attend college because some students present financial problems, lack of motivation, and lack of interest.…

In those electives comes study breaks, performing arts, and physical education. Instead of taking fun classes, I believe our school system should consider making it a requirement to take classes on important stuff like how to take the ACT. The ACT test is a must when applying to college. “According to the latest results of the organization’s standardized college entrance test, only 1 in 4 students qualify as prepared for college in all four subject areas: English, reading, math and science” (webley). So, instead of a PE class we can study, learn, and practice for the ACT.…
