1.1 My intention to do the project was private. Personally, I have always been interested both by: Criminology and psychiatry but I had never been able to choose either. Thanks to this project, I found out that there is forensic psychiatry, which, thankfully includes both criminology and psychiatry. 1.2 My motivation was being able to learn more about the topic, and figure out if it what was I truly wanted to do. 1.3 To further explain, a forensic psychiatrist trains and specializes in the assessment and treatment of criminals with mental disorders, securing their communities and hospitals. This line of work requires a multi-discipline: Law and mental health. This implicates interviews and forms of professional opinion for the defendant, which leads to develop a case for mental illness. Additionally, the psychiatrist used for the trial does not have to have a law degree, only to understand the legal process and proceedings. The more knowledge the person accounts with, the superior the chances are of them getting called as a professional for everyday life.
