Let me give you an example, Jason just came home from work; only to walk in his room and, catch Donna in bed with her paramour. Jason suddenly out of anger kills both his wife and lover. The next moment after he realize what he just done and, regrets killing both his wife and her lover. This is what is known as a crime of passion. Almost 1 in 4 police officers has thoughts of suicide at some point in their life (Illness). In comparison, only 3.5% of the general population experience PTSD. More police die by suicide than by homicide: the number of police suicides is 2.3 times that of homicides. (Illness). That is why the advantages for the Spectrum of Culpability is so important. The epidemic for mental illness doesn’t just effect our community as a small percent, but even the men and women who are sworn to protect our community need protection too. With Judicial programs raising awareness and more people becoming informed about mental health issues, I believe it would be a lot less overcrowded jails and more primary
