The Fair Labor Standards Act or (FLSA) was established to determine the minimum wage and requires premium pay for overtime for the employee. The Fair Labor Act also helps to keep a certain standard when it comes to juveniles. Minors can only work a certain amount of hours per week under this act. Under the FLSA companies have to pay workers a minimum of $7.25 per hour. The wage was raised in July 2009 and will not be changed until Congress changes it. Covered nonexempt workers are entitled to a minimum wage of no less than $7.25 per hour. Nonexempt employees must receive overtime pay for hours worked over 40 hours per week.
