There was need for a positive change in the U.S during the 1900’s. There were political corruption, child labor, horrible working conditions, minimum wage and women’s rights. The factories were worse than the living conditions. There were many cases of people losing their lives or getting extremely hurt in the workplace but worse of all young children were working. Could you imagine a child as young as six working in a dangerous factory? Well that's exactly what they saw in america during this time. This was called child labor the name itself is pretty self explanatory we know that labor is just another word for work so child labor meant children working. For factory owners child labor was the best. You see they knew children could work for little wage. (child labor) In Fact in nineteenth hundreds eighteen percent of all american workers were under the age of 16. “The educational reformers of the mid-nineteenth century convinced many among the native-born population that primary school education was a necessity for both personal fulfillment and the advancement of the nation. This led several states to establish a minimum wage for labor and minimal requirements for school attendance”. After that the U.S came up with child labor laws this set a minimum age limit for children to work in each state.
