The reason there was a minimum wage in the first place is to make the economy stable with the growing population. Now you see as the population grew the wages grew too. “At the federal level, the minimum wage was last increased on July 24, 2009…” This was not that long ago and now people are trying to raise it again. Would it make a difference if we just add all the minors? Probably not, because if those teen earn the money by working, they are contributing to the economy when they spend what they earn. By spending money you put that money back into circulation, therefore making the economy better. So if we hold teens from getting the same amount of minimum wage, we are destroying this economy. Not only has minimum wage have the economy, they saved people from death. “Something has to be done about the elimination of child labor and long hours and starvation wages.” (Grossman). President Roosevelt wrote this in response to a young girl’s letter. Many, at the time, have died to sweatshop conditions. If we don’t let teens have the same minimum wage as the adults now, then it can lead to what it was in the 1930s. Do you want this to happen to your child? Of course you don’t. Minimum wage can have multiple effects that can lead to many other, it’s like throwing a pebble into stale water starting little ripples then as it travel on the ripples gets larger and larger. This means that giving adults a higher wage than minors is ineffective. So making them the same as minors is the better choice according to Gillikin. “Certain full-time students, student learners, apprentices and workers with disabilities may be paid less than the minimum wage under special certificates from the Secretary of Labor.” (Youth & Labor). This is less motivation for the minors, knowing that they could be paid below minimum wage. Now, what is the whole point for a minor to work? The main reason a minor decide to work is to gain some spending money. For that very reason making it the same as adults can have a huge impact on today’s economy. There is more problems that minimum wage create for minors and even more for adults, so wouldn’t it be a strategic more to solve the less problems
