Exit Through The Gift Shop Essay

There are many films, which everyone understands in his own way. Even if the film is simple, then it may be much incomprehensible. Exit Through the Gift Shop by Banksy is controversial for understanding. The most mysterious artist of our time, a man, whose works adorn the streets all over the world, made a documentary, which fascinates, wildly amused, and shocked at the same time. He is famous for his interesting, sparkling, and creative works. His film Exit Through the Gift Shop involves the viewer in producing its meaning and does not persuade him by 'documenting' reality as much as by enacting a particular perspective.
From the point of view of the viewer, the film clearly split into two parts. The first part is about the street art directly.

If we assume that a man named Thierry (now Mr. Brainwash) actually exists, the film opens up with the new colors and fills with the new meaning. Thierryʼs image allows viewing the world of street art, its really lovely side as the works by Banksy and other artists, and its opposite part, a complete deception. After all, if you believe the words of Thierry, he is not the only one whose works are written as on an assembly line. In this case, it is not the art, but punching, the illusion of creation, not worth a penny. Either way, the plot allows the viewer to assume that to a certain extent, this is the feature film. Everything turned upside down, and we are dealing with a new subgenre: the prankumentary. Although the film by Banksy with all own views insists its documentary, thus it bears a strong sense message. The main one is located on the surface and tells that the world of art is quite confusing. As there are fewer places of originality, authenticity and could not agree more.
Exit Through the Gift Shop is a real phenomenon in the world of cinema. It is the so perfect documentary creation that breaks the documentary genre and rightfully intrudes into the world of the feature film. You can even boldly suggest that this film is a mockumentary provocation of Banksy. He was not only an outstanding artist but also a good

After watching the film for a while, and noticing several subtle ways that the filmmakers are drawing attention to the paradoxical and artificial nature of the film, it becomes clear that this isn’t actually a documentary. As Peter Bradshaw wrote in a review of Exit Through the Gift Shop in The Guardian, “As a documentary, Exit Through the Gift Shop is as about as reliable and structurally sound as that house-front with the strategically placed window that falls on top of Buster Keaton. As entertainment, though, it works very well.” The filmmaker actively seeks to make categorization and classification of the film difficult by incorporating and retaining elements of a documentary and a direct cinema style while still exhibiting so many characteristics of an experimental film. This deliberate blurring of the distinctions of film styles is categorically…

The actors where supposed to act on their own behalf because they did not get very clear instructions, neither did the cameraman. The camera should react on instinct and not be prepared to the very next move of the protagonist. The movie did not follow the Dogma 95 rules, but still was imperfect in many ways. Without following the strict rules von Trier had much more freedom to make the movie to his own vision of imperfection. With positive ratings from imdb6, rottentomatoes7 and metacritic8 Melancholia was very well received.…

The story is grim and gruesome, and yet, in Burton’s trademark style, displays an offputtingly quirky sense of humor and a slight removal from reality, because “in the nineteenth century and after, it is not likely that many city dwellers harbor[ed] a literal fear of being eaten, much less a literal desire to eat others” (Riley 3). Another aspect of auteur theory is the idea that a certain theme will emerge in almost all of a particular director’s films, which again makes it easier to understand and analyze the overall message of the film. One major theme that can be included in the study of Burton as an auteur is his consistent inclusion of the theme of isolationism. His characters “are generally outsiders, misunderstood and misperceived” (Burton and Salisbury xiv). This theme mirrors Burton’s reality, which would explain why it is so prevalent in all of his films.…

Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey is a great example of this. The film moves slowly, dialogue is sparse, and the ending provides anything but closure to the viewer. Even so, 2001 only gets better upon reviewing, because the copious amount of detail and overwhelming ambiguity in the storyline and its construction allow the viewer to see and experience something new each time. A movie that could exist as simply a festival of impressive images flashing across the screen with a lazy viewer becomes, when watched actively, an intense, philosophical, and open-ended masterpiece. A more recent example of a thought-demanding film is Christopher Nolan’s Memento.…

The action scenes are to die for due to how realistic they were and the sound that accompanies them will have you at the end of your seats wanting form more. The main plot is how the Joker can ridicule everyone that steps on his way specially Batman which he tries to uncover on multiple occasions. It amazes me the psychology used by the Joker to keep me on the edge of my seat and constantly asking myself how he really got those scars. It was unfortunate to see how the co-star took his life due to the toll the role had on him, however it was a masterpiece from beginning to end. The Dark Knight is tremendous blockbuster entertainment: everything you could hope for and then some.…

The other notable here is Googy Gress playing the villain of the piece Foster Cotton. Gress doesn’t actually fight the preposterous nature of the story, he dives in head first, and benefits from it. That’s the problem with the other actors who NIGHTMARE CODE has an original and somewhat refreshing story, but lacks a sense of fear or tension because of the filmmaking choices made. It’s a subpar debut for director Mark Netter, but there’s still promise in the enticing stories he could bring to the…

The Silence of the Lambs directed by Jonathan Demme accomplishes more than avoiding its sweetness and light. It`s a contorted, merciless, exceedingly manipulative film that, at its center, appears to be ethically weak. Demme's film is alarming on both instinctive and scholarly levels, welcoming ideal correlation with such frightening classics of the class as Hitchcock's ``Psycho’' and additionally such artistic trailblazers as Dostoyevksy's ``Crime and Punishment.’' The story is fantastic, the music is gripping and the acting was favorable. The open-ending, welcomes us to hail the motion picture's death of the most detestable non-killer, is particularly guileful. Likewise with Hitchcock at his most upsetting, Demme embroils the group of onlookers, dragging us into a vicarious trick with a killer.…

On this subject Plato writes about the perception that some artworks provide to people, “ ...injustice is profitable when undetected, but that justice is a man’s own loss and another’s gain.” (17). This quote explains well how some kinds of arts, in this case film can distort the reality in a bad way. To illustrate, the film “The Human Centipede” by director Tom Six shows a depraved surgeon fulfilling his sick fantasy of stitching human bodies together in a row. The images in this film are atrocious and dirty-minded. This type of behavior presented in the movie becomes less disturbing because people are exposed to movies like the “Human Centipede.” Therefore, the previous example clearly demonstrates that Plato had a good reason to call for action in censorship all kinds of corruptive…

While some have gone more aggressive saying that….”his work looks dazzlingly clever to idiots.” To me both of these arguments could be further from the truth. First off to me Banksy works go past that of vandalism he turns blank walls into art and society largely seems to agree as well with the aforementioned 97% that wanted to keep his work around in Bristol, and the other complaint that his works are not very deep, I don’t honestly feel like he is trying to convey his works as anything more then they appear and that to me is just fine his works lose a lot of that pretention that is common in the art world, and just kind of exist in the world. Banksy to me is what a true artist is. He has amazing skill and has strong messages with his works. He has changed the landscape on how we view street at as a whole and that is something that is totally…
