Throughout my clinical rotations, I have dedicated myself to giving best shot at all the specialities, and at the same time trying to figure out a speciality that would align flawlessly with my personal and future goals. While this task seemed straightforward and uncomplicated, it was challenging to find a specialty that combined cerebral requirements of internal medicine and procedural skills of surgery, until my Anesthesiology rotation. Major factors that drew me to the specialty were the challenge of managing critically ill patients, the clinical application of pharmacology and physiology and the hands on nature of the speciality. During my third year, I had glimpse of the profession while doing my core rotations. My first month into clinical rotations, I was on-call for my internal medicine rotation.…

When I think about me now and compare myself to me before starting this OTD program, I have a new outlook on the profession and the work that still needs to be done. Before starting this program I was content with sitting in the background within my place of employment. This program helped me realized as the program progressed that occupational therapy practitioners still needs to do research to support the profession. I also realized it is critical to for me to continue to read evidenced-based articles in order for me to be effective within my profession. I learned while in the 734 course from the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) sensory integration guideline there was not a lot of strong evidence to support the recommendations.…

It is with great pleasure that I formally submit this letter of interest for the Central Behavioral Health Clinical Experience position. I am currently a rising year II student in the Clinical Psychology (Psy.D) program at Chestnut Hill College. I choose Chestnut Hill College because I was interested in developing my growth as a psychotherapist in ways that could further expand my understanding of individuals in the context of their systems. I value the growing concept of incorporating multiculturalism in therapy and believe our program truly appreciates this aspect. Prior to beginning the masters of occupational therapy program it was as if I was an ancient wanderer in the dark ages, eager to learn new ideas and discover new places not sure what the world would throw at me next. Over the next eight years I found myself at a series of personal crossroads one encounters during life’s journey. Not the crossroad where one sells their soul to the devil for some magical power. It was more of one of those forks in the road, a kin to the Robert Frost Poem, where one path leads to life A and the other leads to life B. Crossroads that impacted my future, shaped who I am and my character, influenced life changes, which led to a transition that will influence me and my family for generations to come. I come from…

The goal of this assignment was to find an area in which we believe that there is a lack of mental health counselors and would benefit from having mental health support. I decided to go with hospitals, Kadlec Medical Regional Center specifically. The reason I decided hospitals would benefit from mental health counselors is because as a previous volunteer at a hospital I saw the lack of emotional support family member and patients received from staff. Another thing that led me to advocate for mental health counselors at hospitals was having the experience of being the family member of a patient who is in the ICU and meeting with doctors to tell you the prognosis and then leaving you without any emotional…

An Occupational Therapist has many responsibilities in their field; responsibilities such as the progression and safety of their client. It is our job as therapists to be proactive and competent for the sake of the patient. If one would not be able to perform their duties it could be detrimental to the employers, the therapist and most importantly the client. There are five areas in which professionalism is necessary: education, responsibilities, evaluations, the intervention process and the discharge process (American Occupational Therapy Association, 2015, pg 1), as well as how they handle themselves and the client in everyday sessions. Working together, the occupational therapist practitioner and assistant can work in tandem with professionalism…
