Resistance is the refusal to accept or comply with something; in the attempt to prevent something by action or argument. The Holocaust was a horrific time period during World War II. It ended in great destruction which resulted in the extensive loss of about 6 million lives, especially by fire. The Nazi party,which was run by Adolf Hitler, dehumanized the Jewish community. They were forced to live in a ghetto which were cramped and had many limitations as to what they were allowed to do. This infuriated the Jews which resulted in resistance. During the Holocaust, Jews used armed and unarmed forms of resistance in order to retain their humanity.

This was a form of unarmed resistance because they were being secretive and hiding things. “ They would hide books underneath their clothes and take them to their underground libraries” (Jews Resist 1). They wanted to continue to educate their children and themselves. Also, they wanted to be able to do activities that they had been able to do before. This was able to show their ability to stand up for their beliefs in a peaceful way.
In conclusion, Jewish people were able to find multiple ways to resist the Nazi rule by using armed and unarmed resistance. The Jews used armed defiance against the Nazis by using weapons. They showed unarmed defiance by continuing to pray even after it was forbidden. Peaceful resistance was also shown by them smuggling books into the ghettos for their secret library.
