ENVIOUS COMPLIMENT
Don 't waste too much time wishing, hoping, and being envious; it 'll make you bugnutty. – Penn Jillette The envious compliment is when one tells another individual that they wish they could be like them or dress like them. I have a friend who is constantly telling me things such as, “I wish I owned your closet – I wish I could pull off that look like you – I wish I was your weight.” These statements are considered compliments in the world, but why? They are individuals wishing to be somebody they are not, and probably will never be. Some may get weirded out by people telling them things like this. If this crowd does not notice the change or ignores it, the person is hurt. They feel self-conscious about how they changed their appearance; they refuse to try anything new from then on. While they are assuming the worst-case scenarios about why they were not complimented on what they were doing new, they should be thinking of positives. They got complimented on the old them which basically means that they can be themselves. If an individual were ever in a predicament where they realized they were about to compliment the wrong trait of somebody, they can easily think through their thoughts before speaking in order to make the other person a little more confident in their …show more content…
Whether they are the manner of giving or receiving compliments, they are everywhere in the world. No matter how one is meant to be taken, there will always be a deeper meaning in some minds. Leo Buscaglia once said, “Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” Buscagalia understood that a compliment could not only put a smile on one’s face, but make their life seem a little better. With a compliment and smile on one’s face, they are prepared to face the problems they originally wanted to avoid. They will carry with themselves more self-confidence than they have ever known to have. If it is difficult to get along with one another, learn how to thank every individual for a compliment.
