Everyone knows the old saying “The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.” While that is mostly false, Jay Gatsby, from The Great Gatsby (Fitzgerald), does believe so. He enjoys knowing that other people want what he has. People in our present day society are just like the people that envy Gatsby. Today’s people are always wanting something else. You can simply enjoy what you have. If you're wanting a new car to replace your old one then just be happy that you have a car at all and that you don't have to walk everywhere you go like some people do. If you're feeling envious, try to channel those feelings into something more productive like volunteering at a homeless shelter or a soup kitchen, rather than focusing on your envy (Dr. Phil). That will make you appreciate what you have even more and cause you to envy less. When you are feeling insecure about what you don't have for some reason, just remember that nobody is perfect, and you shouldn't hold yourself to such high of standards. Remember that the person you envy probably envies someone else, or they might be unhappy with what they have. They could be in tremendous amounts of debt or have some other personal matter going on in their life (SOURCE). The person you envy might have received what they have in an illegal or illegitimate manner: drugs, scamming people of their money, robbing a bank, or robbing another person. Always remember that you have something that someone else wants. You may have a skill that someone else may want and you should be proud of that. There are many ways you can get over envy, and those are some of the most common ways to do so. For everything there is to be envious of, you should rather look at the good things rather than the bad
