Euthanasia according to the oxford dictionary is described as “The painless killing of a patient suffering from an incurable and painful disease or in an irreversible coma.” The word originated in the 18th century from the Greeks to mean “easy death”. There are two types of euthanasia which are active and passive euthanasia. Active euthanasia is when the medical professionals, or another person, deliberately do something that causes the patient to die. Whereas passive euthanasia is when the patient dies because the medical professionals either don 't do something necessary to keep the patient alive, or when they stop doing something that is keeping the patient alive. The difference between these judgments is that active euthanasia is voluntary. On the other hand passive euthanasia is involuntary. Euthanasia is considered a moral controversy within this era similar to abortions and same sex marriage. This is due to the fact that this practice is being carried throughout two countries in the world. According to “24 & ready to die” The Economist: YouTube. It is stated that euthanasia is “The most extreme and controversial of assisted suicide, Belgium is one of two countries that allows it.” Since Belgium is considered a participating country, “In 2013 there were more than 1800 doctors assisted deaths in Belgium, While 97% of cases involved people suffering from terminal or chronic illnesses, 3% were people suffering psychiatric disorders.” As discovered by “24 & ready to die”…
