Section 1: Introduction The theme of this paper is to deal with an ethical dilemma from a HR generalist perspective. The references used will come from Chapter 1 of my textbook "Human Resource Management, 13th edition" by Robert L. Mathis and John H. Jackson. Section 2: Content. The situation at the Norwalk plant is that Mary Alice is the HR generalist involved with the closing of the plant, the relocation of some personnel to the Huntsville plant and the laying off of approximately 200 local employees. Given the fact that Mary Alice has worked there for the last 6 years, developed friendships amongst the employees and is knowledgeable about the company's plans to relocate makes her current position more challenging. She is torn between doing what's morally right by informing her fellow employees of the Company's plans and what her contractual responsibility is to the company as the HR rep. Her dilemma is what to do, how to do it and if she should do it at all. …show more content…
She is also bound by a confidentiality agreement with the company to safeguard company secrets. As an HR rep, her loyalty is to the company, its mission and its overall success or failure based upon her decisions. According to the text, any decision she makes should be guided by these two questions: 1) does the behavior or result meet all applicable laws, regulations and government codes?; 2) Does the behavior or result meet the organizational standards and professional standards of ethical behavior?(Mathis and Jackson,
