I can agree with the cognitive development theory that once children have gender constancy, the will look for a role model to help them build their masculine or feminine traits. I saw my older cousin and my father as my two role models that taught me how to be masculine. In chapter 7, it talks about how mothers more than fathers, communicate more with the children. Since I grew up mostly with my mother, she gave me advice, encouragement, and emotional support. My dad never did communicate with me much. The only thing he did was motivate me into playing soccer. He used to pressure me to be better player than the other children in my team. He used to brag to his friends about my soccer skills and that made me want to try harder because I did not want to upset him. Both of my parents never did discuss sex topics with me. My father did not tell me what sex was or how to have protected safe. I learned that from my older cousin, Joseph. My older cousin taught me that one of the elements of being a male was to have as many women as possible. He explained that I should never focus on just one girl. That a man should always have a second woman as an alternative so that one should not be emotional hurt in case of a break up. The more women one has, the manlier he is viewed as.
