Why has the United State not already lowered the drinking age? European countries have a drinking age of sixteen years old, while the United States has a drinking age of twenty-one years old. So why can’t the United States lower the drinking age? It’s not as though, people are going around the law to get alcohol. People in the United States have been introduced to alcohol at least one time in their life time before they hit the age of twenty-one. Many people in the United States have consumed experienced alcohol in high school. In the article, “Principles of Adolescence Substance” it had stated that over 70% of high school students have experienced alcohol by the time they are seniors. Lowering the drinking age, especially in today’s society will help young adults to be more responsible for their actions and make better decisions. In the United States, the drinking age should lower, children of eighteen are already granted with equal value responsibility, and this lowered drinking age had already been in practiced in European countries. …show more content…
Teens basically make their own decisions and have to be responsible. When people turn eighteen years old, they’re allowed to buy cigarettes, get married, join the military, serve on juries, and sign your own contracts. In the article, “The University Star”, they had said that people eighteen years and older are considered adults and should be treated as such by being allowed to legally purchase and consume alcohol. If teens are able to do all of these, they should be able to drink alcohol at this age. Allowing 18 year olds to consume alcohol would decrease unsafe drinking
