Hephaestus/Vulcan Hephaestus is the god of fire, the only ugly and lame god among the beautiful immortal gods. Although it is said he was originally shunned for his appearance, he was later revered by the mortals, for he was the patron of metal-working, one of the most important jobs. However, when he was born, it is said his mother tried to get rid of him, ashamed of his physical deformities. He is very calm and peaceful, and spends most of his time working in his workshop. In some stories, he’s said to be married to Aphrodite. When an author alludes to Hephaestus, they’re usually portraying a very ugly character among beautiful people. He rules over the underworld, which was his share between his brothers, and is the lord of the dead. While he is the king of the dead, he isn’t Death itself. Hades is also the god of wealth, as well as all the hidden metals on Earth. He wears a helmet that gives the wearer the power of invisibility. Hades is never invited to Olympus, and hardly ever goes willingly. While he is terrible and unsympathetic towards his subjects, he is just, and not an evil god, as he only punishes who deserved to be. His wife is Persephone, whom he abducted from Earth. When an author alludes to Hades, they are portraying a character who is usually reclusive and ill-natured. He or she is not evil, but very selfish and indifferent to other people’s feelings and needs. Although he may be terrible, he or she is not unfair, and will act unforgivingly to those who have committed crimes. He or she will be very rich and greedy, but has nobody in their lives to share the wealth with. This character doesn’t own any inanimate objects of their own.
