Life during the 1930s was extremely difficult for everyone, no matter their race or color. The 1930s were so difficult due to the Great Depression. The Great Depression sent shockwaves of poverty throughout the entire United States and even some foreign countries. During this time, crop prices dropped, jobs became scarce, and banks failed. Life was so difficult that some Americans sold their children just to be able to provide for themselves. Also, besides the poverty during this decade, there was somewhat of an epidemic of prejudice and hatred that the whites directed towards African Americans. During the 1930s life was very difficult, African Americans were treated horribly, and African Americans were forced to use separate things as the whites. .

According to the photograph, African Americans were forced to use separate drinking fountains as the white people. Also, this photograph makes it obvious that the African American’s things were not nearly as nice as the white people’s. According to the photograph, the white people’s drinking fountain looked much nicer and looks as if it chilled the water before it was used. Not only did the African Americans have worse drinking fountains, they had worse facilities as the white people. The African American’s were also forced to use separate restrooms and schools.
