From insulting Willie claiming that he is “a bit slow in the uptake” to directly spitting in Sam’s face, it’s easy to say no one would want to be Hally. Except that’s the catch, Willie is Hally. Both men have raging tempers, Hally yell's and degrades others while Willie is a women beater. Along with having raging tempers in common they both lack common sense. The common sense of realizing that hurting others only hurts you in the end.
Both men assume that by hurting others they make situations better or more in their favor which is highly false. Willie beats his girlfriend who also is the mother of his child simply because she doesn’t get the steps rights in a dance routine. A dance routine to a competition that Willie will participates and hopefully wins. And Hally seems to go into a “hulk mode” stage of rage simply because his alcoholic father is being released from the hospital. Things neither man can change, they lash out due to fear, fear that they will lose, fear that they won’t matter
