A project reporter for the Los Angeles Times, Nazario talks about the true story of a young Honduran boy named Enrique that was abandoned at the age of 5 by his mother Lourdes. Lourdes left to the United States as an immigrant to work so she can be able to give her poor children a better living. After 11 years of tears, sadness and loneliness Enrique decides to go to North Carolina in search of his mother. Traveling from Honduras across the Mexican republic and “El Tren De La Muerte” The Train of the Death, Enrique sets off his long journey to find his mother.

Enrique’s drug problems continue to worsen until his drug dealer threatens to kill his cousin because of the debts that he has. To pay off the dealer Enrique steals his aunt’s jewelry, but gets caught by the police. He then gets kicked out of his home another time, and even though he does not want to leave his girlfriend, who is pregnant with their child, Enrique feels obligated to travel to his mother, the only person he believes loves him.
Enrique’s journey begins through Central America and Mexico on his way to the United States. He leaves with a small amount of money, a set of clothes to change, and his mother’s phone number written on a scrap of paper and the inside of his pants. For Enrique, it would have been easier for him to become a legal immigrant if Lourdes his mother had invest in legalizing herself by getting a green card and because Enrique wasn’t eighteen yet he would’ve became a legal boy in America. It’s better than paying a smuggler to bring whomever to the united states not only does that look bad but they suffer more and have a chance of not making it as well, the smugglers themselves they get you robbed, rape all sorts of bad things with no promise and guarantee that you would make it to the united
