Fair treatment in the workplace is critically important. All employees should be treated equally and have the same consequences if they present challenges in the workplace. There should be a mutual respect among the employees and employers. Fair treatment in the workplace also consists of equal pay. Equal pay means employees should receive the same pay for working the same job, while upholding the same working standards that is necessary for the same position. Bonuses or raises should be based off quality of work and the experience the person has in that position.

Employers have an ethical responsibility to be loyal to their employees, this means more than just giving them a job. Being loyal as an employer means that they will do whatever it takes to help their employees in many different situations. An employer should try their absolute best to not lay off their employees. If a layoff must happen it is important to give their employees as much notice as possible that there will be a change, and if possible to offer packages for the laid off employees.
Another ethical responsibility for the employer would be to have an openness with their employees. It is important that the employees feel a connection with their employer and not to feel intimidated by management. A person may rationalize or defend their unethical behavior for leaving patient information in the fax machine by stating “I was too busy to pull it down, before I got called away”, “I didn’t even know that was there”, or even just not taking the blame for a simple mistake.
