When applying Kantian Ethics to unequal pay and pay discrimination between men and women, it is clear that there are various jobs within the work place that may only be fulfilled by men, however, there are some job positions that many only be fulfilled by women. Since there are positions that may only pertain to a certain gender, this causes pay discrimination. Therefore, Kant would demand that businesses would refrain from gender-based roles and duties; people must perform the same tasks if they contain the same skills and experience. In regards to Utilitarianism, “an ethical theory that stipulates that the rightness or wrongness of an act can only be based on the overall well-being of those affected by the act.” When relating this theory with pay discrimination, it is unfair that there is an unequal gap between men and women. The inequality is detrimental towards women and leads to societal imbalance. Therefore, in order to resolve this issue, the managers and the human resource department of the business would have to work together in order to resolve these issues and ensure that the tasks are assigned to both men and women, and that there is not any gender gap and specific gender roles. One important issue is the pay discrimination that is implemented between the male and female gender. When only men are able to establish certain jobs and women are not, it creates an issue. This issue also expands to the concept of payment that the individuals receive. It has been statistically proven that often, men earn more than women even while performing the same duties and obtaining the same positions. This creates a barrier within the company and forces women to feel as though they are underappreciated and that men are their superior. Men feel as though they can overcome anything without any obstacles. Although there have been laws that have come into effect in order to overcome this issue, many individuals and many companies still implement these issues within the company. Therefore, it can be concluded that by using Kant and Aristotle’s theories, companies can achieve much success by treating their employees with equality, fairness, and respect. By ensuring that their employees are happy, businesses are able to run smoothly. Also, by inducting the right leaders, a company is able to rely on supervisors to achieve the highest level of success. When a company hires an individual to lead the company, they must ensure that the leader will have the company’s best interest in mind and also, reciprocate fairness and respect towards all of his/her staff.
