Anyone is capable of committing a crime because as long as there is a temptation, there is a potential for crime. According to the Routine Activity Theory, three elements are needed in order for a crime to take place: a target, a potential offender and the absence of guardians. Apart from that, this theory proposes that by changing the environment, crime can be reduced. Five techniques available to prevent crime are increasing the effort, increasing the risks, reducing the rewards, reducing provocation, and removing excuses.
