The Electoral College, what is it is? Most people after I did my survey were very confused on what it actually was and what they do. So I did my research and according to the national archives and record administration “the Electoral College are people we elect that are equal to the amount of our state and house representatives who essentially pick the President of the United States”. In other words for every house of representative that we have we get one elector and for every senator that we have we get a 2 electors, since we have 2 senators for each state. So during the constitution convention of 1787, the founding father wanted to find a secure and uncorrupt method to elect the president. Many ideas were brained stormed according to the ProQuest firm “they brainstormed about elections based on state legislations, or by governors of the state or even creating a special group in congress”. All these ideas were formulated but only one reigned supreme, which was send it to the committee of 11 to figure it out. So the committee designed this system that we still used today, but slightly different, which was to get certain representatives to vote for the president and vice president of the United States. They attempted to make sure that the leverage between the states size would be equal, therefore if you had a bigger state with a bigger population this wouldn’t mean you get all the votes. So that means any on in the congress such as senators, House of Representatives, political employees and even military and United States law enforcers are not required to be electors. This system was incorporate to reduce corruption within the federal government as well as state government so that no one comes in with bias reasoning’s and such. So majority of the electors are well known folks with in the community or close friends with politicians and other big institutions. So as much as they didn’t want corruption, corruption finds its way in the
