The human energy field surrounds every human being. Many therapies exist that can influence this field, including but not limited to Reiki, faith healing, Bioenergetics, and core energetics. When examining these therapies and how they can be more efficiently utilized to treat various diseases, it is vital to take into account their methodology and the effectiveness of their influences.
Reiki is a form of energy medicine that utilizes the therapist’s hands to channel energy into the patient through the use of a light touch. Chakra’s are “spiritual energy organs which are related in many ways to the physical body and the mind” as defined by Walter Lubeck (2002). Lubeck goes on to explain how all seven chakras are situated through the midline of the body, creating the main energy channels (2002). By focusing on the seven chakras of the human body, therapists can open these energy channels allowing energy to flow, therefore decreasing the blocked energy and opening the current between chakras (2002). Each individual chakra has its own function which individualizes its niche within the body. Lubeck interprets the 7 chakras: the first chakra is the survival chakra, this permits the body to be grounded in the present moment. The second chakra represents the body’s ability to be happy with one’s self, whereas the third chakra is more of the negative side representing power and fears. Love, friends, and family are emitted from the fourth chakra, communication and physical talents are found in conjunction with the fifth. The sixth chakra is a spiritual vision that “combines the functions of all parts of our being in a constructive and harmonious way with each other (Lubeck, 2002), and finally the seventh chakra is being whole with the universe (2002). In treatment, Reiki and chakras are used as a mental healing agent where Reiki guides the energy to the appropriate chakra, eventually balancing the body, as described by Lubeck (2002). During treatments, a therapist will examine the body, looking for “closed chakra’s”, once the therapist locates dense chakras, they can begin to treat accordingly, opening the chakras, and releasing the dark energy and giving the client a relaxed, and balanced feel in their
