There’s Something in the Water Relaxing on a beach or fishing on a river are fun activities. The water always looks clean and fresh. No one wants to look across the ocean, lake, or river, and see candy wrappers and plastic particles. Unfortunately, New Jersey waterways, specifically the ones in northern New Jersey, have been plagued with an abundance of plastic.…
As noted this is only the beginning of the long-term Solutions that need to be implemented in order to protect their sources of water. Solutions to this problem in the coming years Will eventually need to match the scale of the problem in order to make a big…
Every morning many Americans wake up, take a shower, brush their teeth, and continue their day with a steaming hot cup of coffee. There is no doubt we are dependent upon water, it is essential for everyday life. A few decades ago, water was only used to support life. Now with our advanced technology, we are able to use water for entertainment, generating power, producing crops, and virtually anything we wish to do with it. However, being able to do all this comes at a price.…
The lack of interest shown by governments towards ensuring quality human necessities such as food and water as seen in our world and in books such as 1984 is a repugnant act of Dehumanization. In George Orwell’s 1984 the society that the people live in is a totalitarian based which is referred to as the Party. Winston, the main character of Orwell’s novel, works in the ministry of truth which is responsible for falsifying information that is given to the citizens and is one of the few who are privy to the unjust done by the party . One example of the wrong doing of the government is when “the Ministry of Plenty had issued a promise (a ‘categorical pledge’ were the official words) that there would be no reduction of the chocolate ration during…

During the 18th century, France possessed the colony known to them as Saint Domingue, an island in the Caribbean Sea. Possessing valuable resources and optimal conditions for growing expensive crops such as sugar, France dedicated much of their money into this little island, allowing Saint Domingue to become the wealthiest colony in this time period. However, the Haitian slaves revolted against the French colonial rulers, resulting in the first complete successful slave rebellion in history. However, the cost of the war, natural disasters, and a French "independence tax" crippled the former colony, leading to an almost instantaneous decline in the country's wealth and prosperity. Today, Haiti has the shameful title of the poorest country…
The Canadian Drinking Water Guidelines was issued to serve as a guideline for the quality of drinking-water. According to Eggertson (2015), the guideline did catch some of the mines and projects which caused the water quality to fail, but only few provinces specified the reason, such as source water is contaminated, but not relating unrelated projects to the water quality. This shows that the government’s guideline was not useful in terms of finding the true reason of the failing water quality and solving the situation. Another example is in Quebec, where the provincial government had tried to tackle with the water quality for 30 years, in the way of reducing river pollution (Patonine, Hébert, & D’Auteuil-Potvin, 2012). The programs had been only partially successful since they recognized the main source of the pollution was actually agriculture, where they dumped a large amount of phosphorus (P) and nitrogen (N), which lead to the water quality not meeting its standards (Patonine, Hébert, & D’Auteuil-Potvin, 2012).…
As Tom Mulcair, leader of the New Democratic Party of Canada said in a speech to representatives of the Enoch Cree Nation and the Assembly of First Nations: “There is a Canada where clean drinking water is simply taken for granted, it's a fact of life, and families live in the comfort of quality, affordable housing. And there's another Canada, where the basic right to clean drinking water remains out of reach and families live in homes that are overcrowded and unsafe.” (CBC News, 2015) Indigenous society has always had a level of separation from the rest of Canada. Recently, with the release of the Truth and Reconciliation report, a government-supported inquest into the legacy of residential schools and Indigenous affairs, information on…
The four-level hierarchy of needs pyramid shows how consumers behave based on their needs. The lower level on the pyramid usually must be satisfied first, before the upper levels are satisfied, even if the consumer is not actively thinking about it. The lowest level in a four-level hierarchy of needs pyramid is physiological needs. This represents basic needs that are necessary for functioning: food, rest, water, and sex (Perreault et al, 2016). An example of a marketing campaign addressing physiological needs is Fiji Water.…
Climate change is one of the main concerns of the contemporary world due its various impacts in social, economic and environmental dimensions. One of the consequences of this global phenomenon is the change of availability of water resources through the planet, resulting in water-stressed regions. Therefore, water security has been increasingly approached in decision making processes on politics and, in order to adapt to this new reality, some measures must be taken on infrastructure such as the construction of pipe lines or the construction of desalination plants. Among these options, the desalination plant is the most questionable one because even with the ability of producing potable water regardless of rainfalls, it is an energy intensive…
More industry requires more water, and the quantity of water services is more demanding too. Plus the increase becomes any awareness to the government and it will provide better water services. (World Bank, 2016). All the water that is being used ,…
There is a great chance it is going to get worse and people are going to get sicker as years go on and populations grow. Children are not going to live past the age of five and parents will not have enough money to afford clean water. There are many programs and organizations trying to help these villages in Africa. The Water Wells For Africa (WWFA) has a mission and it states, WWFA promotes rural African community development by providing sustainable water sources and reducing health risks associated with contaminated water. This is a good mission as sustainable water is something everybody should be able to enjoy in life.…

Experience from Europe and North America suggests that it will become a serious problem in the future. Groundwater is water below the earths surface. Groundwater contamination occurs when man made products like oil, gasoline and fertilisers get into the groundwater and causes it to become unsafe for human use.…

In general, the WHO framework revolves around target-setting, forward planning and surveillance before deciding on the most appropriate application in order to achieve the goal of safe drinking water provision. While WHO’s framework just serves as a general guideline for countries to follow in their quest to provide safe drinking water, some countries have gone a step further by introducing laws that ensure high quality of drinking water is maintained. Countries that have implemented such laws include New Zealand with its’ Health (Drinking Water) Amendment Act passed in 2007 (Ministry of Health – Manatū Hauora, 2014) and United States’ Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) which was passed in 1974 (USEPA,…
