Domestic violence is the willful intimidation, physical assault, battery, sexual assault, and/or other abusive behavior as part of a systematic pattern of power and control perpetrated by one intimate partner against another (The Bridge).In certain parts of the world domestic violence is thought to be nonexistent. Most of this based on how women are viewed within their own country. There is also the issue on victim blaming and shaming this is a major problem which can lead government and law officials to assume since there are no reported incidences than there are not acts of violence being committed. Sadly, many of these attacks are viewed as “family” problems allowing officials to disregard the victims which allows the abuse to continue and remain unreported. However, we must not assume that one culture is more violent then another an abuser is an abuser period.
This a behavior that exists within many parts of the world and society. Nevertheless, what makes this abuse so prevalent is government policies, and how society views and categorizes victims. For instance, in many parts of Saudi Arabi women are often forced to marry their attacker “The honor of a woman is defined, in parts of the region, by her chastity. If she looses her virginity, even through rape, she looses her value as marriage material.
