Domain II: Personal Development (Morals and Ethics)
Domain Description Society today is very self involved. The behavior of society reflects this self involved mind set. It can be hard to strive past this wall of self centered mentality and to selflessly serve others. A good teacher has the ability to look past oneself and reach each student. Breaking the cultural standard that each individual has to fend for their own. Keeping students accountability to standards that they set for themselves and to achieve even greater expectations (2.0). The influence the world outside of individual lives can determine how a day will go for someone. Even being around someone who had a bad day can make someone else’s day bad as well.

It was a paid position but it was the first time I would be teaching on my own. The age group I taught too was middle school age, which is actually not the age I plan on teaching. Teaching at the community center made a small impact on how I view teaching. I was teaching the students something that I absolutely love doing, and seeing them enjoy what I love too made it all the more worth while. In my class I only taught two girls. These two girls were different in personality and age which was challenging at times because I had to find a way to treat them equally without excluding the other. It was not easy but I was able to find a way to teach both girls at the same time while they both received knowledge and skill differently (2.d). God tested me during this time because the center was not always the most organized place, but working there gave me strength in being flexible with things not always going my way (2.f). Teaching with technology was part of the class. I have discipline when there are rules and regulations to follow but if it comes to self I struggle to find the strength to drive myself to work on something. I do admit I have grown better over time but discipling myself has definitely been an ongoing struggle. I will easily obey the rules my coaches, teachers, and parents set in place for me. I love to listen and follow but for a while when it came to doing things on my own I was lost. Luckily with the grace of God I have been able to gather discipline throughout the years and grow (2.f). It is an area I still plan to grow in but I see the importance of having my own discipline. So that my students know that who it is before them is someone worthy of looking up to
