This has brought up major controversy nation wide, and directly with the shoppers at Target. With Target on a nation wide spotlight, a petition has been brought upon the AFA calling for a boycott against Target with signatures are growing tremendously. After the policy was publicized that Target stated that individuals may use the bathroom or fitting room matching up with their gender identity, it brought up controversy with not customers and other retail stores. This lead to questions on how other retail stores are taking a stance on the topic itself. Target made the statement that “We believe that everyone - every team member, every guest, and every community - deserves to be protected from discrimination, and treated equally”. This in fact plays a key role in how other stores are deciding to approach this topic. How are other stores responding to the policies? Will they go public with their own statements or do they fear loosing their business as well? While statements made by Target have backfired, some retail stores of those who run businesses throughout the country have signed Human Rights Campaign that calls for a repeal of NC’s law. This has brought up controversy and protest against the bill. The fear of endangerment to women and young children are being brought up as an issue with the Bathroom Bill. But what about the dangers transgenders may face? While there may be fear of transgenders attacking others in public bathrooms, there have been many incidents where transgenders have been attacked themselves. Transgender doesn’t mean violent offender or pedophile when these claims are made. In recent news, a woman using the restroom at Walmart was accused of being a transgender then furthermore harassed in the bathroom. The law does not bring up crimes in the bathrooms nor does it give an invitation for men to dress up as women and walk into the ladies restroom. The law simply is a way of proving equality to those who face the discrimination of the public. With this law being passed it supports the civil rights granted to US citizens and protects the entitlement of Title IX.
