The LGBTQ community estimates for over 9 million individuals that identify as LGBTQ. This community began in the 1990s and is used to emphasize the sexual diversity and gender-identity of all individuals. The LGBTQ community has been fighting for their rights for many decades, and since then their rights and freedoms were on the rise. In 2011, NYC was the largest state to allow gay and lesbian couples to marry, and by 2012 Maryland became the 8th state to legalize gay marriage. 2015 landmark Supreme Court case Obergefell v. Hodges extended the right for same-sex couples to marry nationwide. In 2016 Obama weighed in on the “Toilet Wars” and gave the right for students to use bathrooms according to their self-identified gender. This began the rise of rights for the community in public schools, until the Trump Administration came to the forefront, revoking and changing many of these rights protecting the LGBTQ
