Case Study Of Anu's Stages Of Human Development

Developmental Psychologists believe that humans are constantly developing and changing throughout their lives, in terms of mind and related systems. All humans begin as children, and since a child’s rate of cognitive development is higher, they are extensively studied (Gade, personal communication, October, 2015). Let’s consider my niece Anu, she is currently 6 and lives in Chicago. She lives in a household of parents and two younger siblings. Her activity level, from my own experience and from her mother’s account, is rated as high when comfortable. She is shy and takes an average-long time to build attachment to new people. Hachmyer (October 14, 2015), identity development in humans are approximated by Erik Erickson’s stages of human development and they provide us with characteristics gained by individuals as they age. Anu is now expected to have completed infant, and toddler stages as described by Erickson. And no previous account of unresolved issues puts her currently in preschooler stage. During her infancy, before 18 months of age, she had established attachment with her mother and father in order to help …show more content…
We can start by testing appearance from reality by showing her a model of a room and hide a toy in the model. Later, inform her that a bigger toy is at the same place as the smaller one and ask her if she could find it. According to Piaget she should be able to find the toy easily, if preoperational stage is mastered; Anu is now capable of these kinds of tasks. Next, we could ask her questions regarding conservation of volume by having 500mL of water in different size tubes and asking if they all have same volume; Anu currently has trouble answering this question. According to Vygotsky every child has zone of proximal development, the distance between what a child can do alone and what is possible with help (Kalat, 2014). By showing Anu examples of how water can change shape but retain its volume we can help her master this
