Description Of The Groundhog Day

That night, I went to bed and my mind was racing. Our plan was set in place. As the clock struck midnight, I quickly snuck out of bed and got dressed. I was so anxious. I wanted to be ready at a moment’s notice. It took less than two minutes to put on a thermal shirt, a sweater, jeans, and heavy wool socks. I laid on my bed, staring at the ceiling, counting down the minutes.

At 12:50 on the dot, I heard muffled noises outside my window. I sat up and looked outside. There was James and his horse and carriage. At that moment, I grabbed and put on my coat and boots. He was driving one of my favorite holiday carriage and horse called Dale. They decorated the carriage with assorted ornaments and lights. As James became closer, I got excited.

Some holes the groundhog dug, other holes dug by the zookeeper to fool visitors to think the zoo had more than one groundhog. The Zoo made a special hole for the groundhog for Groundhog Day. Before the groundhog goes into hibernation for the winter, the zookeeper moves him into a special lock room that emulates outdoors. Early Tuesday morning on Groundhog Day at 6:00 a.m., the zookeeper would carefully place the groundhog on a special made sliding floor, in order, to slide the groundhog to the outdoors living habitat. The Zoo covered the outside hole with a heavy round wooden plate to prevent predators from entering. They placed the outside hole near the front wall container. Overlooking the hole, the city constructed a podium for the mayor to stand and open the ceremony for Groundhog Day.

“We have to go inside.” Carl replied.

“Why?” I asked him.

Carl replied, “The groundhog is in the secret habitat.”

Carl walked us around to the side door of the habitat. He pulled out a set of keys on a ring and began thumbing through them. After a minute, He whispered, “I found it.”

As he opened the door, we went in quietly. Carl said, “Follow me.”

We followed Carl to the location the groundhog was sleeping. Again, Carl started thumbing through the ring of keys. When Carl found the keys, he said to us, “Please be very quiet, we do not want to wake up the groundhog.”

Paul whispered to us, “He is the one jangling the keys and making all the

Groundhog Day: Are You Repeating the Same Patterns? Remember the 1960's Sonny and Cher song "I Got You, Babe?" In the wonderful movie "Groundhog Day," that song is the one that Bill Murray's character, Phil, wakes up to every morning. The first time it happens, he continues on with his day, not sensing any oddities with how his day will unfold. Each subsequent day, however, the song is his indicator that he will be repeating the same day over again.…

Excerpt from The Great Fire by Jim Murphy It was Sunday and an unusually warm evening for October eighth, so Daniel “Peg Leg” Sullivan left his stifling little house in the west side of Chicago and went to visit neighbors. One of his stops was at the shingled cottage of Patrick and Catherine O’Leary. The one-legged Sullivan remembered getting to the O’Learys’ house at around eight o’clock, but left after only a few minutes because the O’Leary family was already in bed. Both Patrick and Catherine had to be up very early in the morning: he to set off for his job as a laborer; she to milk their five cows and then deliver the milk to the neighbors.…

    Baseball Narrative

We sat on the hot metal of the bleachers outside of the baseball field. The rainy days of Spring were replaced with the sweltering heat of the Summer, and hearing the clink of a baseball hit a bat in the Summer had become a tradition for almost five years. My older brother Dakota had spent those years being bombarded by sweat, mud, and the encouragement of his family, friends, and coaches when the team needed to hit a ball or when he wanted to show off how much better he had gotten since the last season. We were all ready for the season to be over so that we could plan our almost yearly trip to Virginia to visit our Aunt, Uncle, and our almost overwhelming blue-eyed cousins, Liam and Carlile. When the baseball season had come to a happy--or sad--ending, we would plan the trip and be piling into the car within the next week or two, to go on the getaway…
