Personal Narrative: Groundhogs Day

Decent Essays
This is it! Tomorrow is the big day for me to make my spectacular appearance. I still can’t believe I'm scared after I've been doing this on February, 2 since 1878. I have been waiting for this day for months. It's been so long since I ate a decent meal. Now it's time for me to make my ground appearance. Oh my gosh, I think i'm making a gruesome face right now, there are so many people staring at me. What if I give them the wrong prediction? Will they hate me for it? I just have to stay serene and think for a second. People love me for what I do. I am an icon in this town, even though they take me out too gobbler's knob each year on February, 2. Besides why did Groundhogs day have to be on February, 2 couldn't it just be on my own time. It

I work for my dad on our family ranch in Jones Creek, Texas. The work is hard, backbreaking, and tiring. Everyday when I get home I eat the meal that my momma makes for us: there is no arguing whether or not that is what you are having for supper. Every night I get in bed completely wore out from a hard days work, then I wake up to do it all again in the morning. This job is not for everyone, however it is for me.…

On May 14, 2016, it was the last day of cheer tryouts at champion cheer. I was aiming for level 3 ,which meant back tucks. Back tucks have always been easy for me but, today was different. It couldn’t have been past 10 a.m. when the alarm went off. We all knew what it meant- we were firefighters, it’s what we do. The fire chief told us that an apartment complex in downtown Boston had gone ablaze, and that it was really bad. We quickly got into our uniforms and hopped on as the fire truck left the station. We were a few miles away before I saw the smoke, a dark giant against the bright blue sky.…

Last night my dog bit me! My dad about shot him in the head with a shotgun, but I told him not to because that Bruiser, my dog, is too stupid to know what he did. He still wanted to shoot him in the face so I stood in front of Bruiser and told my dad to lower his weapon. I knew he would because I’m his baby girl and I can get anything I want, but I don’t do that because then I would be a spoiled brat and no one wants that.…

I sat there in the hard seat of my desk and waited patiently. The scent of Lysol was overwhelmingly powerful in the room, but I knew by the third week it would be overpowered by the smell of musty children and chalk dust. I could not wait for my new teacher to saunter up to me, eyes full of admiration, and give me my paper. I had worked hard on it for nearly two months during the summer prior to this new school year. Looking around the room at my new classmates, it was easy to tell who had done the summer assignments, especially with their conspicuous faces.…

I entered the door of my local high school, and I felt the uneasiness fly away. I moved through the hall where on the side I saw the countless golden and silver trophies. As I continued down the hall I saw a desk that has four pieces of paper on the bottom with letters that were organized through last name. A's-G's were on the far left while S's-Z's were on the right. I went toward the desk to get my schedule.…

Have you ever wished that you had listened to your mom or dad when they asked you to promise to not do something or go somewhere? Well, that reminds me of the time when my mom said “Promise to come straight home from school, do not pass go, do not collect two hundred dollars, come straight home right after school, and make sure you put on a helmet”. I know that I will never break a promise to my mom again. It was a hot summer day after school.…

It was a perfect day in May on the beach of Florida.
