Some do it each day, others do it once in awhile, and there are some who try to avoid it everyday. Honesty is something we have been taught since we have been children, yet we misuse it. The Merriam-Webster definition of honesty is fairness and straightforwardness of conduct; adherence to the facts (Honesty). People may lie to get out of a situation right there and right now, but eventually it may fill them with guilt for days to come. Honesty takes a long time to get earned; “Honest Abe” wasn't just giving to Abraham Lincoln for no reason, her earned it. Even though some people may think lying is okay, honesty will benefit them more in the long run; even if it is brutal honesty.

One person is starving and doesn't get paid until next week, but he reads a sign that says “Get a free dessert for your birthday”; the only problem is that his birthday passed 6 months ago. He decided since he didn't get one on his birthday, it is okay to ask for the desert, saying his birthday is today. Reality is, that kid missed coming in for his birthday to get the treat, so he isn't eligible for it. Just because the place doesn't ask for an ID to check doesn't mean you should do it. Now his friends may think different of his integrity, his respect, and of course, his honesty over a five dollar desert. Honesty can be just like when people are sick with the flu virus; it can be inside of our bodies without us even knowing. Eventually, the virus will affect us, leaving us ill for days. Liying can be the virus inside of us, not knowing we have it and go on each day like normal. Then when the illness affects us, it is just like honesty having to come out because keeping the lies hidden wont work anymore.
