Wright et al. use the results from this study to explore deeper into the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions in actual clinical settings and aims to show that the external validity of couple therapy can be studied in rigorous ways (2007, p.302). This article uses the results to provide deeper understanding on three different objectives of this study. The first objective was to examine the clinical representativeness of a large sample of couple therapy outcome research. The second objective was determine whether clinical representativeness analyses could help in understanding the different outcomes in behavioral couple therapy and emotionally focused couple therapy (Wright, et al., 2007, p. 304). And the final objective was to test the relationship between clinical representativeness and outcome in a data set with potentially more variance in clinical representativeness (Wright et al., 2007, p. 304). The results from this article reveal clinical representativeness of couple therapy outcome studies is a meaningful construct that can be reliably assessed by independent observers (Wright et al., 2007, p. 313). The results are used to describe the characteristics of this collection of data called descriptive statistics (Salkind, 2016, p.9). 313). The present findings show the clinical representativeness of couple therapy studies is fair and meaningful based on two observations. “First, the mean total scores of clinical representativeness of couple therapy outcome studies for marital distress(CTMD) and couple therapy outcome studies for comorbid relational and mental disorders(CTMD+C) were slightly lower than the midpoint of the scale. Second, those scores were also slightly lower than results reported by Shadish et al. (2000, p.513) in studies of individual psychotherapy and behavioral couple therapy” (2007, p. 313). It is through the results and data that this article’s hypothesis and research is valid. Without the data and interpreting the meaning behind the data, this study would prove nothing and would be speculations. After the same results are proven over and over again, through collecting data and observations is research considered
