1.1.1 Community, District, School Contextual Factors that Influence Instruction
a. This community has over 1,000 children below poverty. Poverty can greatly impact the amount of one-on-one educational interaction children receive because of family members who are unable encourage education in the children’s lives. School is an opportunity for all students to receive this type of interaction. However, classes with twenty or more students make it nearly impossible for a teacher to provide one-on-one interactions to each person on a daily basis. Therefore, an instructional strategy that would benefit students would be cooperative learning. The group interactions seen in cooperative learning would provide students with one-on-one educational interaction

Two resources that would greatly enhance students learning in this classroom include the access to personal laptops that the students share with other classes and the access to the school library. The laptops would provide the students with a great number of learning opportunities in the classroom. They could be easily used to complete online activities and tutorials that aid learning. They could also be used to type essays or other projects so that students develop the technology skills they need. The school library is also a great asset to the classrooms in this school. It helps students to grow their reading skills while encouraging them to use books to learn new information. A great way to utilize the library would be to have students conduct research. This skill is one that is addressed in the standards that students need to learn. With the help of the librarian and teacher students could look up books that pertain to a topic of choice and learn how to find trustworthy information and use it …show more content…
There are several ways in which a student interest inventory will help further a student’s education. Interest inventories provide teachers with the knowledge of the students’ lives, family, interests, and even hobbies. This information allows teachers to design lessons that will hold the interest of the students. If a lesson is designed around something students are interested in they are more likely to stay interested and motivated while learning. If lessons are based off of things students are not interested in they will more easily become disengaged and miss important information. The student interest inventory I used is in the design of a poster they can hang in the hallway. It asks questions that provide a basic understanding of who they are and what they are interested in. Most of the students shared an interest in technology, sports, and animals. This information will guide lesson decisions in the future so that students will be more likely to enjoy lessons and learn as much as they can from
