A social worker is able to display a professional performance by “Demonstrating effective oral and written communication in working with individuals, families, groups, organizations, communities, and colleagues.” On Wednesday, Deirdre had me and another intern count the amount of bread the organization received from the local Publix. Although this may have seemed to be a small task that did not take much effort, it opened a door for me and my colleagues to be able to communicate better in the office. Performing this task together created an opportunity for us to feel comfortable around each other enough to where we will be able to handle caseloads more effectively. This is because I believe in order for colleagues to be able to work effectively and improve their services to clients the individuals need to feel comfortable around each other; not being afraid to express thoughts and opinions. The purpose of completing these trainings is for me to understand why certain actions are required in the working environment of Vital connections. Personally I feel this will help me in intervention. Simply because I will understand where a child needs to be mentally and if they are not I will be able to go back and figure out why the child is not up to pare where they need to be in their mental state. I will be able to mark the red flags that may have been ignored during a child’s development and work to bring the child up to speed to the best of my abilities. Overall this was a good week and I feel there is hope in being an intern at Vital Connections. Although there are times where tasks are limited and I have to complete tasks that seem irrelevant to class material, I try and understand why and how these tasks can relate to
