Competency 1 – The principal knows how to shape school culture by facilitating the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of learning that is shared and supported by the educational community.

Introduction to Educational Leadership provided me the opportunity to examine competency 1, by having me investigate my school’s mission statement and explore the vision the administrators and teachers had for our district. I also looked closely at how as a school district we were relating to our changing cultures and demographics. In Educational Leadership and Technology, the 4 M’s introduced how to evaluate a mission statement by determining if it was memorable, meaningful, moral and motivational. A vision was defined as what was ideal, philosophy as what is valued, and a mission intervenes between the two and incorporates action steps to be carried out. A campus principal is a change agent that must understand the role of technology in our schools today and be able to create and articulate a philosophy, vision and mission when it comes to planning, implementing and …show more content…
In order to inform parents about an assembly involving a guest speaker I created a letter with the specifics of the topics to be covered, the date and the time. I also let them know that although the assembly offered information required by law they did have the option of allowing their child to attend. Parents were also given the option to attend. In the weeks leading up to the STAAR, students were sent home with a benchmark checklist and parents were encouraged to go over it with their child. In the letter, I asked for parents support and gave them the upcoming STAAR dates. The day before the STAAR tests, I sent a letter home giving specific information about the tests, breakfast options, and other important school events. By creating newsletters, I learned how many parents appreciated being kept informed and how important it is to students to have parental
