Compare And Contrast My Life With My Family

Improved Essays
I live with my mom and dad. I have two brothers and one sister. They are all older than me. My sister, Ashlyn, lives on campus at Northern Illinois University. Her and I are extremely close. It’s always been the two of us living with our parents, so when she moved out to go to college I got pretty lonely. We facetime or text at least once a week. My two brothers are much older. Adam, 27 years old, and Dan, 26 years old, are my half brothers, but we don’t say that in my family. My family is very close. I grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania surrounded by my parents, Ashlyn and Dan, my mom’s side of the family, and all Dan’s uncles and aunts. Although we aren’t blood, I’ve called them aunt/uncle since I was able to speak. I am also close to …show more content…
Sometimes my mom will take our dog for a walk but most of the time she is super tired from work. My dad’s exercise comes from doing housework or sometimes playing sports with my brothers or me. In our basement we have an elliptical that my parents use to use a lot, but now it’s folded up in the corner and no one uses it. My mom is the one who goes grocery shopping and cooks, so we eat whatever she buys. This doesn’t really affect me because if I wanted healthier choices I could ask my mom and she’d buy them for me. Their exercise habits don 't affect me greatly either because I play sports. However, we could definitely improve our diet and …show more content…
I’ve always strived for adults approval. I have played softball since I was four years old and basketball since I was twelve years old. In my free time I enjoy reading, watching movies, scrapbooking, and hanging out with my family. My favorite book is The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. My favorite is movie either Grease or 13 Going on 30. My favorite actress is Cameron Diaz and my favorite actor is either Will Smith or Johnny Depp. I have a deep love for potatoes. I could eat any form of potato, especially french fries, every single day. The only radio station we got consistently in the small town I am from was a country station, so I also love country music. My favorite band, 5 Seconds of Summer, is not country though. I have seen them in concert at least three times. I am very grateful for my parents because they give me as much as they possibly can and they’re very supportive. I’m interested in joining a program called Global Leadership Adventures which allows teenagers to volunteer in other countries to help with children and building schools and medical facilities. There are over 50 clubs at Niles North and I wish that I was part of more of them. I have participated in softball and basketball both freshman and sophomore year. I plan to move forward with softball but not basketball. At the beginning of the second semester a friend of mine started Sign Language Club which I take part in. I wish I participated in animal

I interviewed my seventy-five year old grandpa Donnie, researched the Voyles lineage book that my grandma Arlene helped compile, and talked with my dad in order to find out more about my family’s history. According to Grandpa Donnie, it all began in 1759 when Jacob Voils, his wife, and his four sons landed in Port Charleston from Wales. Jacob was a poor man and could not afford the family’s way to Charleston. Desperate, he made a deal with the ship’s captain to indenture his oldest son William Voils as a crew hand for four years in exchange for the family’s way. Upon regaining his freedom, William furiously changed the spelling of his last name to Voyles to break all ties from his father Jacob. Since then, William Voyles’ descendants have spread throughout the Midwest and West.…

My dad died when I was eleven, and that is when my perspective changed. I was asked to leave school early that day on February 15th, 2009. At first, I thought I was finally going to meet the one and only Michael Phelps, since he was in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for a visit. I was wrong. I was taken to the hospital where both of my parents worked, and didn’t find out about the news until I arrived. To this day, I don’t know the proper story of his death, other than that my dad and my pregnant mom got into a car accident on their way to work. I wasn’t sure on how to handle losing one of the closest people to me at only the age of eleven. The best thing I could do was cry, and so I did. I cried and cried for months, and I still cry every now and then. However, I was told it’s part of life, and we must continue to move forward.…

I am a daughter and a sister. I come from a pretty “traditional” Catholic family. I have two supportive parents. Unfortunately, they are currently going through some health issues right now, but things are looking much better. Not too long ago they celebrated their twenty-seventh wedding anniversary. I am the second and youngest child; I have an older brother named Jay. We could not be any more different than each other personality wise. We tease each other a lot, but in actuality we get along well and are really close.…

Currently, I am living with my family. My family and I are connected biologically and emotionally. I feel that a family can be defined as a group of people (more than one person) whom one can share a connection with and depend on. My immediate family consists of my mother, grandmother, and two siblings. My mother and grandmother raised me. I was raised alongside with my younger half-brother and half-sister. At age two years old, my biological parents divorced. Both parents later remarried. When I was 10 years old, my father died. Technically, I have two half-siblings and a widowed step-mother on the paternal side of the family. However, I do not have any emotional relationship with them. Since my father funeral, I had not seen or spoken to…

About a year, after I was born, my grandmother passed away due to cancer. My entire life, my uncle, and his wife assumed the roles of my maternal…

I’ve never had what most would consider a normal family. I began my life living with my mom and my grandparents, as my mom was a single parent. That, to my dismay, changed when I was two years old and my mother got married. She moved in with her husband, but due to the late hours she worked that would’ve caused her to barely see me, I ended up staying with my grandparents. My mom’s always been in my life and been there for me, but my grandparents raised me.…

Some of my biggest influences in life come from my family. My family has always been a supportive and stable place to go to in times of need and advice. But before I start talking more about my family I want to give a background on my life and how I grew up. I was born in Los Angeles County of California in a city called Lancaster. This city in very special to my family because this is where we all came together to celebrate Christmas and Thanksgiving. In a way this city brought our family closer. My mother, father, sister and I lived with my grandparents for about two months after I was born until we move out to start our own traditional family home in Las Vegas, Nevada. This city is also very important to our family because this is where…
