Beowulf is a historical figure while superman is more of a modern day heroic figure. There are five characteristics of a hero that makes them the same but also different. Bravery , selflessness, humility, patience and caring
Beowulf is courageous and braver than superman. If beowulf was not as courageous he would not have fought Grendel or the dragon. Not everyone is brave enough to fight a gruesome monster. Beowulf was brave enough to put his life on the line to defeat the monster.

He put everyone before himself. He may have asked some of his strongest men to come with him to fight Grendel, but that was only because he wanted to defeat him.
Superman demonstrates selflessness. He could easily run a country, gather extreme weather , or basically have anything(comic vine). He puts everyone he comes in contact with above himself. He also puts his life on the line for everyone.
Beowulf also displays the characteristic of humility. When he fought against Grendel he seemed somewhat humiliated. Sometimes being humble is not always a bad thing. Beowulf went on to defeat Grendel and his mother with all the strength he had (Literature book). Superman displays humility by putting safety of other before his own safety. He does not like seeing evil in the world. He stays humble to his citizens by defending them to evil villians that come to destroy mankind. For instance, when someone is in trouble is automatically goes to save them. He saved superwomen from being killed by risking his own safety to swoop in and take the gun from the killer. Therefore saving her and saving the day. That is how superman displays
