Interpersonal Communication Journal Reflection

The first few weeks of the semester really made me realize how terrible of a communicator, I am; in a communication class perspective. Throughout my week, I would write in my Interpersonal Communication Journal about all of the different types of conversations I came across. Not one conversation was the same. They were all about different topics. Each journal entry I would write, however, had all different aspects to them. These journal focused largely on perceptions, attention and language, listening and nonverbal communication, self-disclosure and dialectical tensions, mediated communication, and conflict. While writing these journals, I learned a lot about myself. I saw many strengths in my communication, but I also noticed some areas that I can work on. This is an example of personal distance proxemics. Personal distance is when you are normally a few feet away from each other, but you do not walk hand in hand. This was a reoccurring pattern I noticed in myself, however it is very normal for most people. I also noticed something in myself that, without re-reading these journals, I would not have noticed. I am not a shy guy. I will go up to people I have never met before, people I hardly know, friends of mine that I do not see as often and have a conversation with them. I love catching up with people and seeing how their lives are going. These serve as an example of Dialogic communication, where the communication allows us to catch up with one another and see how things are going. I do not think I had ever been a shy guy, I am willing to do things that others are not and I am okay with that. These journals entries made me realize that even further. Patterns aren 't necessarily a bad thing they give you a Constant place where you feel comfortable to be in or even talk
