Melinda in the beginning of the book she showed no courage at all she was very quiet in the class she had no one to talk to and never said anything. One time during lunch, she got hit with food and got it all over her clothes and all over her face. "A lump of potatoes and gravy hits me square in the center of my chest"(Anderson 8). Melinda has a lot of courage coming to school the next day after what happened. I would be really embarrassed and afraid people would just laugh at me as I walk by in the hallways, but she wasn't scared of that and that takes a lot of courage. Another example was when she was telling Rachel about what happened at the party. "some guy raped me"(Anderson 183). Rachel was the first person Melinda has told about the party not even her parents, so it took a lot of courage to finally tell someone. Last was when Melinda stood up to Andy and told him about what happened at the party. When she it talking to him, he tries to do it again and she yells at him. "NNNOOO!!!"(Anderson 194). Then he stopped and that was the end of that.
Throughout the book many of the people showed courage, but the most were Heather, Rachel and, Melinda. So thanks to Heather being there for Melinda when she needed someone, Rachel is being there when Melinda needed someone to talk to and, Melinda believes in herself when it got hard to. Thanks to all of them that's what kept her
