College Admissions Essay: What Is Life?

Many people can answer this question differently in many parts of the world and they will not be wrong. What is life? To them life may consist of hardships, beatings and maybe even having servants at your call. I will like to say that life is as sweet as a ripe mango under the shade of the mango tree but sometimes it’s not. When I was little my life consist of seeing my mom being beaten by my father. I didn’t understand why she stayed with him for so long and why she suffered for eighteen years. I found my voice in kindergarten and tried to tell my kindergarten teacher and she said “don’t tell your mom and dad business to everyone”. I opened up to her and got reprimanded like it was my fault that he use to beat her daily. I decided that when I grew up I wanted to be a teacher so that I can help students in need. Wow the question makes me think of many different things. Things that have shaped me into the person that I am today. Things that molded and sculpted me into a daughter, sister, mother, friend and sometimes even a wife. The sufferings in my childhood have opened my eyes to the neglect of the world. A child can have a home with their basic needs met and is lacking empathy and love from a parent. Two children can grow in the same household; However, One can be treated differently and this can lead to a life of drugs and crime and the other to be a social worker, always trying to help and taking others’ problem as their own. From the outside people can see a happy home where there are plenty of smiles and money for needs and even some wants. What people don’t see is the monster behind closed doors many children nowadays live in an abusive home environment. An environment that is a lie on the outside and hell on the inside. I was that child and now I’m the adult that brings hope to the abused parent, which finds resources and
