College Admissions Essay: My Love For Fashion

As I sat contemplating what to write my essay about, I realized that there was only one thing that I truly wanted to write about, and that is my love for fashion. Growing up I was surrounded by sports and Catholicism. In a small, conformed town, it was difficult to have passions that differed from everyone else, and although I participated in sports growing up, and would be nowhere without my faith, I was lucky enough to find a passion that made me different. Being that three of the four children in my family are girls, Barbie dolls and baby dolls were prominent objects in our house. My sisters and I would often spend full days dressing these dolls for imaginary events they were going to attend, often leaving their petite articles of clothing strewn across every room in our house. I loved doing this so much that I thought I could do it every day for the rest of my life, and I would have. …show more content…
Before every speech I gave from that point on, my heart would race and my breathing would accelerate—for every speech except one. In my junior year of high school, my English teacher challenged us to give a speech about a career we wanted to pursue in the future. Along with this, we had to dress-up according to the career when we gave the speech. I chose to give my speech about being a Fashion Stylist, but I still had not fully rediscovered the passion for putting together outfits I had when I was younger. On the day of my speech, I put together an outfit that expressed my style, and as I gave my speech I realized that my heart was not racing and my breathing was not speeding up. I realized that because I was confident in what I was wearing, I was confident in myself, and in turn I was confident in giving my speech. From that point on, I realized that my passion had never left me, I just simply needed to trade in the baby dolls for real
