This is where the science background is vital, not only in the physical factor, but in the psychological aspect of training as well. Since science is the backbone of this field, the importance of being well read is crucial since new research is always coming out and new protocols are being formed annually. That means that research skills must be present as all workouts are programmed based off peer edited and science backed research.
Having good research skills is imperative as a strength coach because college sports are as competitive as it gets below the professional ranks. Therefore, you want to make sure that the workouts these athletes are performing are up to date with the most recent research on having your athletes reach their full potential. He did not sugarcoat the hardships of this career as he put out the details of the job with pure honesty. I have been interested in this career field for a few years now and I was really excited to have the chance to interview someone in the profession. One of his big points about a challenge in the job was being high energy all the time because you must show these student athletes that this is the best day of their lives every time they walk into the weight room. I agree with this answer completely because having an attitude like that is what is going to get your athletes to push themselves to their potential because it makes them want to be there even more since they see you fired up for them to be walking through those doors every day. When it came to the writing side of the job he did not emphasize as it being a top priority, but instead he put being able to speak well, especially in front of large groups and being well read in the field. The importance of being able to understand and interpret peer reviewed articles is crucial for success in this field. I valued this interview greatly because it gave me more insight on what is required for this job academically, physically, and the necessary time to put in to make it as a college strength
