What my husband's advancement to Chief Petty Officer means to me? The answer of that question could be 10 pages long or I could just resume what I feel in one word, "extremely proud", well I guess two words. I met Christian 16 years ago, he was full of energy, funny, and he had the ability to turn any sad or bad situation into a joke making everybody laugh; that is what make me fell in love with him. On the other hand, he was a little immature, unfocused when it comes to work, and nothing seemed to fulfill his expectations. He is always in search of new trainings that help him to acquire new knowledge, although he knows that it does bother me a little bit since it means more time away from us. I guess, that is me being selfish and wanted him to be at home all the time. But after 14 years in the military, I can say that all the sacrifices and personal dreams and ambitions of what I thought would be my career and that I had to put aside, have been worth it, since his dreams have become my dreams and his achievements have become my

Military sociologists define the “two greedy institutions” as the family unit and the military culture/vocation. The premise is that both the family and the military life place high demands on military personnel in four areas. These areas are immense requirements of time, energy, commitment of productivity/making things happen, and personal sacrifice. Another similarity between family and the military vocation is that both need 1) consistency in commitment and action, and 2) predictability (both short and long-term) in order to really thrive and be successful. I know that I cherish my family, my education, my friends, and that I will never judge someone because of a first impression.…
