Due to the lack of knowledge, this leads Pyle to condone horrible doings believing it is for the name of Democracy. The United States does have some of the best Universities around, offering the best knowledge, yet with all this information the United States still lack understanding the nation they work hand to hand with. Time and time again the United States would continue to barge in fights without thinking, or acting careless, trying to fix their problems even if they have no clue what is wrong with the country. For instance, the United States would eliminate a leader they despise or see as a potential threat because they are ceasing the spread of communism. Pyle became so caught up in fighting to keep democracy and stop the potential threat of communism and failed to recognize the consequences of his hastiness. He is very naive about his actions and can be symbolically related to being the “Quiet American” as he is seemed to embody the ways of a true American as he makes choices that result in the loss of life and yet still does not see the errors of his ways. As Pyle made the mistakes as America did, he also followed in a similar fashion as when America went to war in Vietnam; it was said so that America could be helping to cease the spread of communism.
